Mayor Spring Update
Mayor’s Spring Update
Hope this update finds all of you well!! Have you have tried out our new restaurant, Pirate’s Cove, located across from the school? Great home cooking at a great price. Check out their page on facebook for more information.
-We have entered into an agreement with the Red Cross to make our community center an emergency shelter in case of either a local or regional disaster. We provide the facility and the Red Cross provides the staff and supplies. They are willing to train any local volunteers who want to help staff this program. We will announce a class time at a later point.
-Spring is the time for severe weather. I want to remind everyone of the 3 safe rooms located at the school that are open to the public. The rooms will open in the event a Tornado warning is issued for our immediate area. The first one to open will be at the middle school located closest to HWY 71. The other 2 will open as space is needed. There are signs indicating their locations. Pets are not allowed due to health and safety concerns.
-I also want to remind you that you can sign up for weather alerts for our city that are sent to you phone. You can sign up for this system called CODE RED on our city website: www.greenland-ar.com. We have offered this service for 3 years, free of charge, to our citizens. The county also provides the same service, free of charge, to those who do not live within Greenland. You can use the link provided on the county website, www.co.washington.ar.us, to sign up if you do not live in Greenland.
-Hopefully by mid April the planning commission will have approved our part of the Regional Bike and Pedestrian trail plan. This will connect Greenland to the new regional park and Mt. Kessler as well as the Razorback Greenway. This will be very good for our city and the folks who live here.
-Our annual spring cleanup will be May 8th from 9am-4pm and May 9th from 9am-noon at the community center. You must bring proof of residency. We will accept appliances, furniture and 4 tires per residence. You must bag or box all trash.
Have a great and safe spring!!
