VIEW FROM THE MAYOR’S DESK
Friday, November 11th was Veteran’s Day. I was asked by the school to serve as the announcer for a ceremony for veterans with all the Greenland student body present. The Singing Men of Arkansas performed a very patriotic ceremony. It was a very moving experience with all the children there to honor many veterans who were given special seating on the gym floor. One of those honored was Tom Hendricks, 94, who was on our planning commission for many years. There were many misty eyes in the room and a great ovation for our heroes. We don’t have to wait for a special occasion to thank our veterans. Please always let them know how much we appreciate their service and sacrifices.
I also want to remind everyone that we are back in contract with our severe weather warning system- CODE RED. Information is available at our city website www.greenland-ar.com. This reliable warning service costs Greenland citizens nothing. We encourage you to sign up now.
We are also in varying stages of acquiring grants to improve our city. We should have more information in the near future. We will soon begin construction on a trail around the baseball fields, 80% funded by a grant we received.
As we enter cold weather time, please remember to check in on your elderly neighbors. As always if there are any concerns or questions I can be reached at city hall at 479-521-5760.
Great things are happening in Greenland!
