Minutes of the Greenland City Council January 09, 2017

Judge Jones swore in council and planning members prior to meeting.

Meeting called to order at 6pm. Those in attendance: Mayor Groom, Stephanie Sharp, Eric Bryant,  Larry Forrester, Danny Dutton, Beckey  Center, Lisa Thornton, Bill Yoes, Justin Reed, Chief Ricker, Danny Wright and various guests.  

Mayor Groom recommended Patricia Lindabury to fill the empty council seat in Ward 4. Motion by Yoes, 2nd by Thornton to appoint Patricia Lindabury to Ward 4 Position 2. Motion passes 7-0. Mayor swore in Mrs. Lindabury.

Motion by Bryant, 2nd by Thornton to amend the agenda and move the planning commission report to next order of business.  Motion  passes 8-0.

Brenda Reynolds presented the planning commission report.

Motion by Dutton,  2nd by Bryant to approve the December’s  council minutes. Motion passes 8-0.

Motion by Thornton,  2nd by Dutton to approve the December’s  treasurer’s report. Motion passes 8-0.

Mayor Groom presented the building inspector report:  no permits pulled.

Chief Ricker presented the court and police report.

Ordinance #323 second reading: Motion by Thornton 2nd by Reed to read Ordinance #323 by title only.  Motion passes 8-0. Mr. Wright complied.  Motion by Thornton  2nd by Reed to approve the second reading of ordinance #323. Motion passes  8-0.

Mr. Wright reported the animal contract with the county is still in limbo.

Alcohol Sales: The mayor, Chief Ricker and several planning members met with a representative from Alcohol Beverage Control  on January 4th to gain more information on the guidelines for alcohol sales in the city.

Motion by Bryant, 2nd by Dutton to appoint Thornton chairman of the council. Motion passes 7-0-1 with Thornton abstaining.

Motion to adjourn ay 6:34 by Dutton, 2nd by Thornton. Motion passes 8-0.

Our former Mayor, Bill Groom passed away unexpectedly just a few weeks after leaving office. Bill had his heart set on spending more time with his wife and family members after twelve years as our Mayor, and two years spent on the city council.
