Mayor’s Update December 2020
To All Concerned,
Recently there has been discussion about where our City meetings should be held; specifically in person at the community center or virtually via zoom.
We are in the middle of a pandemic like no one has seen. The Coronavirus is growing in our state, our county, and our city. We have a chance of beating this disease, but we must vigilant if we want to win this battle.
This thing grows exponentially, so if anyone is infected they can take it home and spread it through our community.
In the month of November alone, the number of cases grew by 58% in Arkansas. Washington County is in the top three (3) of new cases most every day. One of our responsibilities as city officials is to do our best to protect our citizen’s health and safety.
Face- to face meetings are much more likely to spread the virus. In virtual meetings, nobody is exposed to this killer.
Final thought, a little inconvenience of a zoom meeting is a much more effective way to counter attack Covid-19. We owe it to our citizens to keep them as safe and healthy as possible.
Due to the increasing impact of Covid-19 our City Council meetings will be done via zoom, this is the safest way for us to conduct our City’s business.
Mask, social distancing, and avoiding crowds.
