Municipal elections will take place on Tuesday, November 3, 2020. All eight (8)
Greenland City Council seats are eligible to be on our ballots. The positions are
two (2) year terms. The Greenland Recorder/Treasurer position is also on the
ballot and is a four (4) year term. To be eligible to be placed on the ballot, a
candidate must be a resident of the City of Greenland and a registered voter in
the City.

If you have ever considered serving your community, this could be a good
opportunity to do so! The process is relatively simple:

• Pick up a packet from the Greenland City Recorder/Treasurer or the
  Washington County Clerk.
• Get at least ten (10) qualified signatures from Greenland voters. However,
  it is advisable to get 14 – 15 signatures.
• As you can see from the time frame below, petitions can be delivered to
  the Washington County Clerk between July 29, 2020 at 12:00 p.m. and the
  deadline August 5, 2020 at 12:00 p.m. Any potential candidate who misses
  that deadline will not be on the ballot.

Attending a city council meeting as a member of the public could also give an
interested citizen a better feel for what they may offer to better our city! City
council meetings are held the second Monday of each month at 6:00 p.m. Check
our Facebook page or city website for the meeting location as the Corona Virus
issues have affected our meeting location right now.

Time Frame

July 29, 12:00 p.m. – First day to file petitions at the Washington County Clerk’s office.
August 5, 12:00 p.m. – Deadline to file petitions at the Washington County Clerk’s office.
August 10 – Deadline to file Statement of Financial Interest with Greenland
Recorder/Treasurer.

Diversity makes any government entity stronger and more responsive to its
citizens, in my opinion. This is especially true in smaller cities such as ours. One
person doing the right thing can make a big difference.
